The story behind the music

I’m so not metal…and the soundtrack of my campaign video is 😂
(Sidebar: This is only interesting if you care about ‘behind the scenes’ kind of stuff.)

So, why? And what’s the deal with the title of the song?

Well, I was told that I needed a glitzy campaign video to tell my story, why I should be re-elected, and what I’ve done, but that idea didn’t sit well with me. It’s not who I am. And, when I ran it by (now) 17yo and (now) 15yo, they hated the idea of a glitzy campaign video for me.

And they asked if they could make my campaign video.

How am I going to say ‘no’ to that? Why on Earth would I say ‘no’ to that?

When I posted:

16yo is producing/directing/editing a campaign video for me and there will be a clip of me deadlifting 205lbs
There will also be a clip of me buying cookies

This exchange with Kyle of Thoughts Before Prayers happened:

So, Kyle suggested I ask the kids (since they were producing, directing, editing, etc.) if they wanted music and if they wanted it to be metal…and they did. They really, really did.

When Kyle and his band had it finished, Kyle told me that the kids had to name the song. 17yo named it Diamond Spearhead because diamonds are transparent and to spearhead something means to lead it.

As far as political messaging goes, that’s a pretty perfect title, I’d say.

Here, again, are the campaign video (currently at 818 views, which is a bit impressive for being a campaign video for local politics) and a video outlining the commitments I made in 2018 and kept throughout my term on Regional Council. Enjoy!
