Today’s the day you’ll begin to see lawn signs for the municipal election dotting the landscape.
For this election, I have made the decision to not use election lawn signs.
Truth be told, I’ve always hated election lawn signs and used them because everyone else was and I felt I had little choice, if I wanted to put up a good fight for a seat on Council.
Not only are election lawn signs terrible for the environment, the installation, replacement, and removal of them takes up an enormous amount of a candidate’s time, even if she has volunteers willing to assist. In my view, that time is much better spent canvassing the city and talking to voters.
I’ve never been convinced that election lawn signs win elections, and I want to focus my efforts and resources elsewhere this time around.
In addition to all of that, I have reason to be concerned that having one of my election lawn signs placed on your property might increase the risk of vandalism to your property, and I’m uncomfortable with anyone taking that risk.
I have heard from a few people that they would still like the option to show their support, so should you wish to display a sign to encourage my re-election, you can print* this image and display it in your home, office, or vehicle (just don’t park your car at a polling station with this in the window, as you will be asked to remove the sign/move your vehicle):

*Print at your own risk 😬
